My Favorite Netflix Documentaries

There are a large number of documentaries available on Netflix. Many of these films have very meaningful content. Most of us watch films only for action, thriller, romance or fiction. And when the name of documentary comes up, many people find it boring. I used to think the same but I have seen so many Netflix documentaries that I had to change my mind after watching and today I am sharing with you a collection of documentaries that I want you all to watch. I have been compliant to write about this topic for a long time and today I have the opportunity to let you know about it. This article can also be called a review article, as I am gonna share my experience with these documentaries. So let me tell you about all of them in brief.
1) The Great Hack

First of all I'll talk about the Great Hack, it's a very good piece of work, presented as a documentary.
I really recommend each reader to watch, analyse and invest time on it. I do not know, how authentic and accountable its' data's and individual-testimonies are, but I ASSURE the intension of the content is to alarm about the need for demanding AUTHENTICITY in the information being spread around us. The documentary-movie directs us to investigate about matters individually so that we dont get honey-trapped in any manipulative technique of certain partisans. The basic structure of 'The Great Hack' is around the pathetic necessity at which we have arrived today about DATA-PRIVACY..be legalized as a fundamental right.

2) The Edge of Democracy

On second spot I'll add The Edge of Democracy, it's a Brazilian documentary film about the first mandate of President Lula until the process that culminated in the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, analyzing the rise and fall of both presidents and the consequent sociopolitical upheavals that then swept the country. It is an eye-opening and wonderful take about a crisis which changed Brazil but yet everything remained the same! It was fascinating to watch how even with all the public support and the actual votes behind them, 2 successive Presidents had to step down; one of them went to Jail for a crime which was never proved! I had a great time watching this and recommend it to everyone.

3) Seaspiracy

Thirdly lemme add this documentary, Truly thought provoking. Covering a lot of aspects from commercial shipping, to slavery, ecology, government cover ups and frankly disingenuity at best on behalf of organisations who set themselves up to advise us what is sustainable. When I watched Cowspiracy I acknowledged the message and the goodwill meant but could also see/knew flaws in some of the arguments, but the message in Seaspiracy is much stronger and more shocking, and worse still it doesn't even touch as far as it could have on some of the topics it looks at. As someone who enjoys eating fish it has really made me think twice about habits going forward. A truly thought provoking film that everyone should watch.

4) Bitcoin (End of Money as we know it)

At number four let me share this documentary with you, I really enjoyed this documentary. I liked that it firstly gets into the question about what is money and a short history of it. Then it goes on about how the actual system works and how money is being created out of debts by the fractional reserve system. From there we understand why bitcoin might be important in the future from now. Finally it explains what is bitcoin and how the whole system works. I felt that 1h long was a bit too short to cover the subject of money and bitcoin combined. On the other hand it was a very straight forwarded documentary. I strongly recommend this documentary to anyone who is interested in the concept of money and wants to understand what goes wrong with our current monetary system.

5) Black Fish

Blackfish is awe-inspiring. It's a documentary at its finest, it doesn't shy away from anything just for the sake of publication. It's honestly one of the best films I have ever seen and has inspired me to get involved with the fight against marine parks and do my own research into what happened.

Even in 2023, almost a decade later Blackfish stills holds up and was one of the major reasons SeaWorld Entertainment is failing as a company.

6) The Play book

Another great sporting documentary series on Netflix, The Playbook takes five of the world's greatest coaches to discover what it is that gives them the winning edge. Interesting and insightful with plenty of wisdom and advice on how to win in sport and in life.

7) The Minimalists

A must watch documentary, It is eye opening and intrigue you to live a much more simpler life, it shows us how we can live happily with very few things and still we strive to get better things just to satisfy our soul, that is just slowly pushing us far away from the reality, therefore we constantly want dopamine rush, and ignore to take control of our lives.

8) The Mind Explained

It's last but not least! It depicts that the brain is a complex machine, but the way this show introduces the concept breaks the complexity down in a way it can be understood. It goes into detail about the complex and fascinating concept of how our brains work. The way they introduce this idea of the capability of our brains and what they're able to do shines a light on how amazing they are. The way that the experts are so serene and informing, makes this show enjoyable to watch. Revealing the abstraction and science behind the work of our brains makes it truly a work of art.

These were some of my favorite documentaries on Netflix, and I hope you will watch them too. I am sure you will like it very much.

Thanks Alot for Reading!

Much Love.

Cousin Marriages: A Medical Student’s Evidence-Based Response to Common Misconceptions

Cousin marriage, especially first-cousin marriage, is a widely practiced tradition in many parts of the world, including South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. In societies where it is normalized, it is often defended strongly, not only by families, but even by some healthcare professionals. It’s not uncommon to hear statements like: Cousin marriage is usually safe. Other communities like Hindus and Christians have genetic disorders too. The risk only appears after 4–5 generations. Only rare conditions like thalassemia are a concern. Since Islam allows it, it must be safe. As a medical student, I believe it is essential to address these misconceptions using undeniable scientific facts, population genetics, and a responsible interpretation of Islamic ethics. Claim 1: "Cousin marriage is usually safe, so there's no reason to resist it." Truth: It may not always cause harm, but it certainly increases risk. Science does not claim that cousin marriage is always danger...

Medical Students are Humans, not Machines

I'm writing this with a heavy heart, as I'm sure many of my fellow medical students will resonate with the struggles I'm about to share. Pursuing an MBBS degree is already a challenging journey, both physically and mentally demanding. But the recent decisions made by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore have pushed us to the brink. We're currently dealing with a perfect storm of pressure. The summer season in Pakistan is notorious for its scorching heatwaves, and to make matters worse, UHS has shortened our summer breaks to merely a week. But that's not all, they've also snatched away our most important preparation leaves, which were our only solace in the midst of this chaos. These preparation leaves were our lifeline, allowing us to revise and consolidate our knowledge before the final professional exams. Without them, we're expected to recall and retain the vast syllabus covered over the past three months. It's like trying to drink from a ...
